How many Oscars did 'Anora' win? See list of dramedy's wins

The real Oscar winner was "Anora."  At the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, the independent film starring Mikey Madison took home five prizes, the most of the evening.

The Gen Z adaptation of "Pretty Woman," directed by Sean Baker, received six Oscar nominations and was in the running for the night's top honor, Best Picture, along with "The Brutalist," "A Complete Unknown," "Conclave," "I'm Still Here," "The Substance," "Dune: Part Two," and "Nickel Boys."  In the end, it defeated the others and won the prized trophy.

The tragicomedy centers on a young exotic dancer who discovers that getting her golden ticket isn't as simple as she once believed after becoming acquainted with the son of a Russian oligarch.  The movie carries on Baker's tradition of sex worker-focused productions, including the 2017 Willem Dafoe feature "The Florida Project" and the 2021 Cannes entry "Red Rocket."

MovieMood90is  "Anora" isn't a fairy tale that follows the formula of Prince Charmings and happy endings, according to Brian Truitt, who rated it three stars out of four.  Thankfully, it instead examines something more grounded: individuals merely attempting to survive each day with a semblance of optimism and interpersonal relationships.

This is the movie's Oscar performance.
