Ellen, Cher and Sharon Stone say they're leaving US after Trump's win. See ya! | Opinion

Have they already departed?

You are aware of who I am referring to.

According to news reports, Google searches for going abroad and leaving the country increased by more than 1,500% in the days following last month's election.

According to a survey, 1 in 5 Americans stated that if their candidate lost the election, they would actually think about leaving the country.

Naturally, a small number of well-known celebrities then abruptly left the fold.

Photos of comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her spouse, actress Portia de Rossi, were circulated in England within days of the election.

Barbra Streisand, Cher, Sharon Stone, Bryan Cranston from "Breaking Bad," comedian Amy Schumer, actress America Ferrera (ironic considering her first name), and Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk's transsexual daughter, were among the others who announced their plans to leave the country.

Each of them has voiced strong anti-Trump sentiments throughout the campaign and experienced intense and sincere disappointment and, in a sense, grief following the election.

Viewpoint: We all reside in the same nation. Together, we must figure out how to accomplish that.

I understand their disappointment. I know how unhappy, distressed, and heartbroken they are.

Because of this, I would empathetically say "good riddance" to any of them if I happened to run across them on the way to the airport, where a private jet is fueled and prepared to take them away.

What the rest of us know but celebrities forget
Ultimately, those who can afford to take a powder, like them, would be the ones least affected by whatever actions taken by Donald Trump's second government.

However, those same persons possess the means and autonomy to provide some form of assistance to those who would be affected.

Thus, good luck, cheerio, adios, adieu, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

We're staying, the rest of us. And not just because we lack the funds to purchase a condo in Vancouver or London.

It's because the things that made and continue to make America great have never needed to be recreated. And we'll remain to demonstrate it.
