Netflix's exclusive LAPD action thriller will be directed and co-written by Zack Snyder.

This one isn't about bone-breaking caped crusaders, brain-eating zombies, or laser-shooting rebels, people.

After the success of his two-part epic sci-fi saga Rebel Moon, the director is working with Netflix again on an action film that has not yet been given a title and is based on the Los Angeles Police Department.

In addition to directing the film, Snyder is co-writing it with Kurt Johnstad, a frequent collaborator with whom he has collaborated on a number of projects, including the Rebel Moon films, the Frank Miller comic adaption, and the 300.

Under the Stone Quarry moniker, Snyder is producing alongside Wesley Coller, his wife and collaborator Deborah Snyder, and the three of them.

With its absence of the bone-breaking caped crusaders, brain-eating monsters, limb-severing Spartans, and laser-shooting rebels that have characterized the well-known director's body of work, the movie promises to be Snyder's first completely grounded picture. However, it promises to be equally action-packed, dramatic, and philosophically heavy.

The action thriller is touted as being set in the high-stakes world of life and death and focusing on an elite LAPD team that is constantly faced with the harsh collision of law and morality, however specifics are being kept under wraps.

For Snyder, the endeavor will be a full circle moment. He landed his first feature film, S.W.A.T., an action film produced by Sony, more than 20 years ago when he was looking to move away from music videos and commercials. Unsurprisingly, he intended to produce an R-rated film. PG-13 was the studio's preference. In the end, Snyder left the project. But some thoughts and notions were still shackled to his mind.

"Dan [Lin, Netflix's head of film] and I spoke a few years ago about our mutual desire to tell a dramatic, deep, and engrossing story with a strong cast of characters set in the LAPD. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder noted, "It's a conversation that has stuck with me." As you might anticipate, I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with Dan and the rest of my incredible Netflix partners to develop this story.

Following Rebel Moon, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, and Army of the Dead, the new LAPD project will be Snyder's fourth Netflix film. Additionally, it will be Stone Quarry's sixth production for Netflix; the brand previously created the animated series Twilight of the Gods, which debuted in September, and the Dead prequel Army of Thieves.
