Remixes of A24's "Y2K" trailer Bill Clinton in a 1990s montage promoting the directorial debut of Kyle Mooney
A remixed Bill Clinton plays over a 1990s montage of dial-up internet and terror at a 1999 New Year's Eve party in the second trailer for A24's Y2K.
At the start of the trailer, which was made public on Wednesday, a terrified Rachel Zegler declares, "Someone's on the net."
Few further facts about the upcoming movie, which will mark Saturday Night Live star Kyle Mooney's directorial debut, are revealed in the clip.
The film, which opens in theaters on December 6, is about two juniors in high school who end up on their own after breaking into a New Year's Eve party on the final night of the 20th century. With a computer on a remote-control car pursuing partygoers around a living room, it seems like turn-of-the-century technology takes over the party, making it possibly fatal.
The reworked Clinton soundtrack is based on the former president's 1999 Y2K preparation speech, in which he addressed the nation's concerns over calendar data formatting as the year 2000 approached.
The title cards for the trailer said, "Party like it's 1999, or die like it's Y2K." A poster featuring a blood-soaked power wire was also unveiled on Wednesday.
The major cast of the movie features Mooney as well as Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, Fred Durst, Mason Gooding, and Alicia Silverstone.
The script was co-written by Mooney and Evan Winter. Producers are Winter, Matt Dines, Alison Goodwin, Jonah Hill, Christopher Storer and Cooper Wehde.
Upon the film's March premiere at South by Southwest, critic Lovia Gyarkye wrote for The Hollywood Reporter, "It's a film of assured performances — with an especially strong turn from Julian Dennison — and a handful of sharp twists in search of a better story."
