Mohanlal Film’s Journey: Hollywood to Bollywood

Both critics and viewers praised Mohanlal's highly regarded 2016 flick Oppam. With Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, the star of Hera Pheri, is now ready to recreate in Hindi. The thriller Oppam by Mohanlal was based on a Govind Vijayan narrative.

Few people know, though, that the movie was actually influenced by two other movies—one from Hollywood and one from Hallyuwood.

Even though Priyadarshan has experience with Hollywood remakes, viewers may find it strange that a Malayalam action thriller might be a remake.

Let's now discuss the two movies that truly served as inspiration for Oppam: the Korean film Blind (2011) and the Hollywood movie Cape Fear (1991).

There are some plot parallels between Cape Fear and Oppam, despite the fact that neither film has any blind characters. Convicted characters in both movies feel their punishment was unfair.

The villain in Mohanlal's thriller is unfairly convicted, as you can see. Due to compelling evidence, the judge is forced to convict the defendant.

This stands in sharp contrast to Cape Fear, where the criminal was found guilty but the public defender suppressed evidence that could have lowered the penalty.

The same monster returns as a self-taught lawyer after serving 14 years in prison.

Conversely, Blind (2011) centers on a blind former detective who becomes the key to solving a hit-and-run accident.

Together, she and a hesitant witness discover a serial killer who preys on young women. In the suspenseful thriller, her courage and keen senses transform her impairment into strength.

Although there are no plot connections between the three movies, it is easy to identify a commonality after watching them all.
