Alex Consani becomes first transgender woman to win modeling award at UK Fashion Awards

                                        

 

                                  

One pose at a time, model Alex Consani is creating herstory.

The 21-year-old influencer and fashion celebrity won Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London on Monday. Kate Moss, Bella Hadid, and Cara Delevingne are among the past winners of the honor.


Because Consani was the first transgender woman to win the award, her victory was especially significant. The California-born model acknowledged the impact of fellow trans models Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, and Aaron Rose Philip in her award speech.

Consani declared, "I'm the first trans woman to win this award," "But I can't accept this award without thanking those that came before me and specifically the Black trans women that really fought for the space that I'm in today."

Consani also expressed her gratitude to her parents for encouraging her to pursue her childhood goal of modeling.

"I recall telling them I wanted to work in this field when I was twelve years old, and they encouraged me. And I believe that many other parents of trans children ought to do the same," Consani said in closing. "Because change is necessary and more than doable. Additionally, this is a significant positive step.

Early in 2015, Consani started modeling, and by the time she was sixteen, she had signed with IMG Models. A few years later, the model's TikTok following—which currently stands at 4 million—added viral fame to her expanding resume.S.

Consani, who is well-known for having bleach-blonde hair and matching eyebrows, has appeared in fashion presentations for Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Tom Ford.


Consani and Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio made history in October when they were the first trans women to appear on the runway at the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
