Glen Powell Erotic Thriller ‘Homewreckers’ Lands at Legendary After Bidding War (Exclusive)

Glen Powell is engaged to star and produce Homewreckers, an erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist, and Legendary has emerged victorious in a bidding war.

Neil M. Paik, who will also write the screenplay, has included an unpublished three-chapter story in the bundle.

The transaction, which takes place a day or two before Hollywood closes for the holidays, is the year's final significant acquisition. And straight from Santa's workshop, it's a doozy. Sources claim that the contract includes a seven-figure agreement for Paik to develop the script and a seven-figure outright purchase payment for the story's rights. Paik would serve as a producer as well.

Known for the Godzilla x Kong films and the Enola Holmes series, Legendary outperformed Lionsgate, New Regency, Sony, and Warner Bros. in their pursuit of Homewreckers. Bidding for the bundle began at mid-six figures and increased from there when it hit the town last week. According to insiders, it came down to Lionsgate and Legendary.

Although specifics are being kept under wraps, sources claim that the tones are those of Alex Garland, whose films like Civil War and Ex Machina play on contemporary fears, and Adrian Lyne, who created the sultry thrillers 9½ Weeks and Fatal Attraction.

Turning his short stories into attractive properties has become a habit for Paik. While another short tale, Rainbowfish, was put up at Warners, Reawakening, published by Six by Eight Press, was set up at Amazon as a series with Lena Waithe serving as executive producer. This was also following a competitive situation.

Powell ends a stellar year with a reaffirmation of his newfound star power, and the deal is a joyous Christmas present. He became a new celebrity with his comedy, Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney, nearly precisely one year ago. The film was a big office hit when it debuted on December 22, 2023. He then co-wrote and produced the romantic comedy thriller Hit Man, which recently received his first Golden Globe nomination.
